5th May – 8th May  2020

Charleville CBS Primary

Hello boys,

I hope you are all enjoying the break from school work during the long weekend.

We are going to try to change how the boys will complete their work this week using seesaw in an effort to try to make the process a little easier and also to try to minimize the amount of printing that needs to be done. I will upload the English and Maths activities directly onto Seesaw and the boys can use the edit function (T button) to type their answers directly onto the activity. For History and Geography, I will continue to e-mail you the reading and information documents but I will upload the activities directly onto Seesaw. I hope this will make things a little easier for everyone and help to protect a few trees !!

In order for us to be able to track and review the documents on Seesaw, we will need to upload a daily document for Maths and English based on what we would estimate as a reasonable daily amount of work. This is necessary so that we can approve and close out a document after we have reviewed. Otherwise, it will become unmanageable as there would be too many open unapproved documents to keep track of. I will upload all the daily documents at the start of each week so you can still complete them in whatever timeframe works best for you but I would request that you complete one activity before starting the next rather that picking and choosing pages from different documents.

If you have any questions about any of the work you can e-mail me lowens@charlevillecbsprimary.ie or alternatively you can send me a comment on Seesaw (you each have your own private log in details so all your uploads and comments are private).

Keep up all the wonderful work you have been doing. If you haven’t yet joined us on Seesaw, please e-mail me and I would be delighted to resend you the log in details and passwords that you need.

Take care & God Bless

Active HOME Week’ Challenge (April 27th – May 3rd)

As you know ‘Active SCHOOL Week’ takes place every year and is a really enjoyable part of the school year for many children. This year, because of Covid-19 it is not possible for this to go ahead right now so we are asking you to participate in the Active HOME Week challenge instead.

ABOUT the Challenge

The idea of the #ActiveHomeWeek challenge is to:

·        Reach out to parents/guardians to support the work that is taking place in their school

·        Support parents by providing them with ideas and a challenge format to encourage children to build physical activity into their day

·        Encourage children to find NEW ways of being physically active that they ENJOY

·        Raise awareness about the fact that children need at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day

To complete the challenge children have to find four different ways of being active every day making sure that this add up to 60 MINUTES, or more. Children are encouraged to try something NEW, have FUN with a family activity and to ENJOY the week!

IDEAS

There are so many great physical activity suggestions in circulation at the moment from local/national sports clubs, role models and agencies that we decided to organise them into an IDEAS word cloud graphic. All of the activities in the word cloud can be viewed ‘in action’ and ‘in the one place’ @activeflag  The Twitter feed includes activities to suit children of all ages, abilities and interests with indoor and outdoor options and ideas about how to make sports equipment out of every day household items. It’s definitely worth a look

The word cloud is designed to make it easy for parents and children to find ways to complete the challenge, but children don’t have to stick with just these ideas. They can use activities, not listed here, that they are already doing or create new activities of their own. You might decide as a school to suggest activities or to create your own school/teacher challenges!

CHALLENGE Charts

Parents are welcome to return the completed challenge charts to your school in whatever manner is easiest for them, and in whatever way that suits your school best.

  • Hand drawn chart – Completed, photographed and sent back as an attachment to an email to Ms. Sheedy.
  • Printed out chart – Completed, photographed and sent back as an attachment to an email to Ms Sheedy.
  • Fillable PDF – Saved as a file, completed and returned as an attachment to an email to Ms Sheedy.

Send your pictures or videos of you keeping active at home to Ms. Sheedy at msheedy@charlevillecbsprimary.ie
